Terms of use
These terms are an agreement between you and Peyton Young, a sole proprietor in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, who makes and runs Bear Bucks (“we”, “us”). By buying or using Bear Bucks, you agree to them.
What Bear Bucks is
Bear Bucks is a classroom economy website. Teachers set up a “bank” for their classes, and students use it to earn, save and spend pretend classroom money. Bear Bucks money has no cash value and can't be exchanged for real money.
What you get when you buy
- One Bear Bucks bank for you, the teacher who bought it, with your own link and teacher PIN.
- Up to 12 classes and up to 6 co-teachers with their own PINs.
- Every update we make, for as long as Bear Bucks runs.
You may let your students and the co-teachers you add use your bank for teaching. You may not resell, share or copy your bank or Bear Bucks itself.
Price and payment
The price is a one-time payment shown on the front page, in Canadian dollars. It is not a subscription. Our order process is handled by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: it takes the payment, adds any sales tax, sends your receipt and handles refunds.
How long your access lasts
Your bank stays open for as long as Bear Bucks runs. If we ever have to close Bear Bucks, we will tell you by email at least 60 days ahead and, if you ask, send you a copy of your class data.
Your part
- Make sure your school allows you to use Bear Bucks with your students, and follow your school's rules about student information.
- Add only the student information Bear Bucks needs. We recommend first names and last initials.
- Keep your teacher PIN private, and remove co-teachers who should no longer have access.
- Don't try to break into the site, slow it down, or get at another teacher's bank.
If something goes wrong
We back up every class every day and work hard to keep Bear Bucks running, but we can't promise it will never be down or never have a mistake. Bear Bucks is provided “as is”. As far as the law allows, our total responsibility to you for anything to do with Bear Bucks is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Ending
You can stop using Bear Bucks at any time and ask us to delete your bank. We may close a bank that breaks these terms. Refunds are covered in our refund policy.
Changes
If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters to people who already bought Bear Bucks, we'll also email them.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and Canada. Questions: peytyoung@gmail.com.

Privacy policy
Bear Bucks is made and run by Peyton Young, a sole proprietor in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This page explains what Bear Bucks keeps, why, where, and for how long. We keep as little as we can, we never sell it, and we never show ads.
What we keep
- About teachers: the name students see, an email address, the teacher PIN, class names, and the names and PINs of any co-teachers.
- About students, entered by their teacher: a name (we recommend first name and last initial), a 4-digit PIN, and their classroom economy: balances, jobs, purchases, job applications and other writing they send, and notes or reviews their teacher writes. Students don't create accounts and don't give an email.
- About purchases: the name and email typed on our form, and Paddle's receipt number and amount. Card details go only to Paddle. We never see them.
Why we keep it
Only to run Bear Bucks for you: to sign people in, run each class's economy, make backups, find your bank if you lose your link, and answer your questions.
Who can see it
- A class's teacher and the co-teachers they add see that class. Students see their own account and what the class shares, like group goals. The class display never shows balances.
- Peyton Young can reach the stored data to keep the site running and to fix problems, and looks at a class only when that's needed to help.
Where it's kept
- Everything is stored on a server run by Render in Oregon, in the United States. Laws there may allow authorities to request data.
- Paddle handles payments. Its own privacy notice covers what you give it at checkout.
- Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to get them.
- If the Friday summary email is turned on for this site, it is sent through Resend, which receives the teacher's email address and the summary.
Cookies and tracking
Bear Bucks has no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies. Your browser stores a few things for the site: that you're signed in (until you close the tab or sign out), which class this device uses, and writing a student hasn't sent yet.
How long we keep it
- For as long as your bank is open.
- Each class keeps its 40 most recent daily backups.
- When a teacher removes a class, or we close a bank on request, it is deleted for good after 30 days. Render's own daily copies of the server's disk are kept for about 7 more days.
Your choices
Teachers can change or archive student information in the app at any time. To see what we hold, correct it, or have a bank deleted, email peytyoung@gmail.com. Students and families should contact their teacher or school, who decide how Bear Bucks is used in their class.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and email teachers about anything important.

- To ask for a refund, email peytyoung@gmail.com with the email you used to buy, or use the link in your Paddle receipt.
- Paddle, our reseller and Merchant of Record, sends the refund to the card or account you paid with. It usually shows up within 5 to 10 business days.
- After a refund, your bank is closed. If you'd like a copy of your class data first, just ask.
- After 21 days, purchases aren't refundable, except where the law says otherwise.
